Airport Arrivals

Airport Arrival Procedure
All students traveling via air should call the ABT-DSI office @ 313.577.4273 to alert the operations manager of any delays or cancellations. Please make sure to specify if you had requested the ABT Shuttle or arranged transportation on your own.

ABT-Shuttle Van
Airport Chaperones will be located inside the baggage claim area for each arrival flight, except for those students who are "unaccompanied minors." These students will be picked up at their arrival gate.

After arriving at the gate, the student should proceed to the the baggage claim area. The Airport Chaperones will be holding an ABT-Detroit Summer Intensive sign and wearing an ABT-Detroit Summer Intensive tee shirt. After retrieving their luggage, the student will be escorted to the ABT Shuttle Van. In case of an emergency, please have your child call the ABT-Detroit office @ 313.577.4273 to alert our operations manager. The operations manager will be in contact with both the airport chaperones as well as the driver. Throughout the day the operations manager and general manager will be monitoring flight statuses of those students that have provided fight information and requested ABT shuttle transportation.

Shuttle Pick up times TBD (based upon arrival information)

ABT 2011 Roommates!

Hello ABT Detroit Resident Students! CLICK HERE for the 2011 roommate list. Your roommate is highlighted in the same color either above or below your name.

We have provided you with the email address of your roommate so you can communicate and plan your visit to Detroit. Atchison Hall rooms are double occupancy rooms with 2 dressers, 2 beds, 2 closet/armoires, and 2 desks and chairs. Each room has a private bath, individually controlled air conditioning, cable and Ethernet jacks (but no cords). Rooms will have a shower curtain, but NO trash cans, toilet paper, linens, toiletries, or cleaning supplies. Students will be asked to clean rooms at the end of the intensive. If excessive cleaning is needed charges will be assessed.

Catholic Mass

CATHOLIC MASS
We have had several questions regarding Catholic Mass services. With respect of all religions, we do not have the ability to take students to religious services, but we are willing to help with your planning. We have adjusted the Sunday events to start at 12:00p to allow the students to participate in Mass as well as the scheduled activities.

Several Parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit are nearby the campus of Wayne State University. Of these, the following have Mass times that fit with the weekend schedule of ABT-DSI 2011:

Our Lady of the Rosary
5930 Woodward
(313) 875-2719
Sunday: 10:00 a.m.

St. Patrick’s
58 Parsons
(313) 833-0857
Sunday: 9:30 a.m.

Sweetest Heart of Mary
4440 Russell (@ Canfield)
(313) 831-6659
Saturday: 4:00 p.m.

  • ABT-DSI staff are not available to take students to Mass. Parents must make own arrangements to get students to Mass; check out own student or arrange for a responsible adult to check out and take their student to Mass.

  • All parents of ABT-DSI students who wish to attend Mass must follow the exact WEEKEND RELEASE POLICY stated in the Student Information Packet.

    WEEKEND RELEASE POLICY:
(Weekend Outings Only! No overnight trips and the student must return to the dorms by 9PM)

If a student plans to leave after class on Saturday or Sunday, the following steps must be taken:
    1. The parent or guardian must make a request for weekend checkouts by contacting the ABT-DSI Operations Managers at Wayne State University (313-577-4273) by 5PM EST on Wednesday prior to the weekend, stating the student’s weekend plans, the name of the individual responsible for picking up the student, and the time the student will be picked up and returned. The Resident Coordinator or Operations Manager will call and confirm these plans with the parent or guardian.
    2. The student must be picked up at South Residence Hall.
    3. A member of the Summer Intensive staff must meet the individual picking up the student. The individual must be the same person identified by the student’s parent or guardian; identification is required. THIS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE RESIDENCE COORDINATOR OR HEAD CHAPERONE.
    4. Students are allowed WEEKEND OUTINGS ONLY (Note: Activity Fee money will not be refunded for the excursion missed due to a weekend outing.)

The student will not be released if these requirements are not met.
